Who I am
Hello! I was born Austrian-American, until 2015 where I found myself enlisting into the US Army, I learned there was no way I could afford college and there was no way my mother as an immigrant and a single mother would be able to help me with college, especially the amount of education I was wanting. As I got older, I realized more that my mother gave me the best upbringing possible to implement much of European culture to my brother and I-including discipline and respect which is the norm and made joining the military easy. Surprisingly, much of the military is centered around Austrian and German culture, so it was not unfamiliar to me. In fact, it was so familiar that I graduated Basic and AIT at the top of my class. Growing up my mother implemented the importance of being a hard worker and the reward from hard work, much like the story from Frau Holle. My mother, not being from here, of course implemented much of her loved traditions, customs, and foods so naturally, tons of delicious baked goods. Especially around December where the three of us made batches ten times the normal amount for my mother’s horse clients and friends who were always asking and requesting mid summer for these cookies come December time. Many of our recipes have been passed down through several generations, which I have already started to share and teach my own young children while continuing the tradition of baking for others.
While I was living at my station I was shocked and in awe with how many of my fellow servicemembers lacked basic life skills, with the few exceptions of some members who knew the basics, we instantly became friends. However it made up for some fun stories of teaching young men how to do their laundry and what cleaning products should be used. Those of us who knew how to cook and bake were always filling the barracks hallway with aromas of food we were all missing, especially during the holidays- you bring the ingredients, we cooked it up on the weekends. It was here I also learned how to cook Mexican dishes and that I was not a fan for some Chinese dishes.
Having grown up with the best of two cultures blended together, I gained an appreciation for both when it comes to traditions and food, especially when blending comfort foods and techniques to inspire blended dishes. I have always been a home baker and a lifelong food enthusiast whose love for the kitchen started at a young age when my mother started to teach my brother and I the foods she knew. We spent countless hours whisking and kneading away in the kitchen. Those baking moments and memories paved the way for my baking passion, especially keeping a connection with traditional Viennese culture and heritage through food. There is no smell better than the nostalgic aromas from your own childhood of all the foods you loved to eat.
Before launching my own business, I spent the last 5 years working in the field of Pathology as a grossing and Histology technician. After becoming a mother of two, I made the heartfelt decision to step away from laboratory medicine, a field I really love, and step fully into the world of being a mother first. As a mother, I now have the time to turn yet another love that I developed as a child into a business- baking, cooking, and creating beautiful food for others while also sharing with my own children the traditional foods that have been passed down through the generations.
Having recently moved from Texas in August to Ohio, I’m excited to build a home, a community, and a home based bakery business rooted in warmth, craft, and connection. Every item I make is a blend of my heritage, passion, and the simple love of sharing good food. I can’t wait to see how you all will fall in love with Austrian cookies and other European specialties
Thank you for being here. I can’t wait to bake something special for you.
